Choosing dental care should feel straightforward. A £30 consultation gives you the opportunity to explain your wishes, ask about our approach and understand your options.

Personal dental care and advice

Compare dental treatment abroad and in the UK using the full clinical plan, including travel, stages, maintenance and access to aftercare. An initially lower fee may not be the total cost. Diagnosis, the clinician's credentials and responsibility for continuing care are more useful measures than the country alone.

Compare the same clinical plan

A headline cost for implants or veneers may omit imaging, grafting, temporary work, definitive restorations, accommodation, return visits or repairs. Request a tooth-by-tooth diagnosis, material and component details, staged quotation and alternatives. A lower initial price does not always mean a lower lifetime cost.

Treatment timing can be biologically constrained

Bone grafts, implant integration, periodontal stabilisation and complex bite adaptation can require review or healing between stages. A short travel itinerary does not remove those biological processes. Ask what is genuinely completed during the visit and what remains provisional, including how complications or delayed healing change travel arrangements.

Continuity of records and components

Obtain radiographs, operative notes, implant manufacturer and component details, laboratory prescriptions and aftercare instructions in a usable form. A local clinician may need this information to assess an unexpected problem. Compatibility and serviceability of prosthetic parts matter, and not every provider can repair every system.

Discuss infection, nerve or sinus-related injury, restoration failure, periodontal problems and other relevant risks before departure. Know the policy for remakes, further surgery, refunds and emergency treatment after returning home. Jurisdiction-specific complaints, insurance and consumer arrangements may differ; verify them rather than assuming UK pathways apply overseas.

Weigh time and indirect costs

Return flights, accommodation, time away from work, escorts where needed, alternative travel at short notice and local emergency treatment can alter overall economics. A patient with complex medical needs or high maintenance requirements should also consider the feasibility of returning for follow-up and ordinary reviews.

Compare the whole treatment journey, not an airline ticket and a crown

A combined treatment-and-accommodation price needs the same scrutiny as a local estimate. Establish the diagnosis, clinician for each stage, materials, laboratory work and repair arrangements after you return. A UK plan may involve separate appointments while making local follow-up more practical. Neither location guarantees quality; compare the actual procedures, records and responsibilities.

Irreversible dentistry deserves time for a second look

Extensive crowns, veneers, extractions or full-arch implants can commit teeth and supporting tissues to long-term maintenance. Preparing multiple healthy teeth quickly to achieve a dramatic photographic result may not be proportionate. Ask whether alignment, whitening, limited bonding or restoration of only the damaged teeth could deliver a result you would value. A digital mock-up is a useful conversation tool, not evidence that every tooth in the simulation requires a crown. A local consultation gives time to test assumptions before agreeing to irreversible work.

Follow-up can change the apparent price advantage

Some ceramic restorations need bite adjustments after the anaesthetic has worn off. Implant treatments may require staged healing, component checks and continuing gum maintenance. If a restoration chips or a crown becomes loose months later, a warranty may depend on returning to the original clinic or complying with conditions. Travel, time away from work and independent remedial care can alter the total cost substantially. Clarify whether relevant radiographs, photographs, component specifications and treatment records will be provided in a form another dentist can use.

Make the comparison fair rather than fearful

Assess each provider through the diagnosis, written scope, verifiable registration, risk discussion and maintenance plan. Ask both teams to price equivalent alternatives and explain what would happen if findings changed after surgery or preparation. A local Iconic Smiles consultation can help Hertfordshire patients assess proposed work before starting, including whether a smaller intervention could meet the same goal.

The laboratory and the aftercare agreement deserve scrutiny

Before treatment, confirm traceability of the ceramic or implant components and the records and manufacturer details you would receive. Agree who would adjust an uncomfortable bite at home, repair temporary work and provide maintenance. These arrangements affect the value of the plan even when the original procedure goes well, and need to be clear before a tooth is prepared.
