Choosing dental care should feel straightforward. A £30 consultation gives you the opportunity to explain your wishes, ask about our approach and understand your options.

An Iconic Smiles dental practice and welcoming care environment

The current Iconic Smiles homepage advertises dental implants from £1,600, Invisalign from £2,400, composite bonding from £325 per tooth and crowns or veneers from £650. These are starting prices, not a commitment that every patient will pay that amount. Examinations, radiographs, preparatory treatment, laboratory work, temporary restorations and reviews may alter a whole-case estimate. Always ask what is included and whether any items are conditional.

A filling, crown and hygiene visit are not interchangeable line items

A filling may differ in complexity, material and extent; a crown generally involves assessment of remaining tooth structure, the restoration and sometimes separate rebuilding or root treatment. A routine hygiene visit is not the same as a gum health assessment or deep cleaning for gum disease. An apparently cheap price list can be misleading if it omits the service definition or necessary follow-up.

Compare written treatment options, not only totals

The dentist should explain why treatment is recommended, what leaving or delaying it would mean and which risks and maintenance needs apply. A crown and onlay affect different amounts of tooth; retaining and replacing a tooth have different long-term consequences. Compare itemised plans with equivalent scope so the price difference has a clear clinical context.

Which Hatfield reception should you contact?

Hilltop Way and Market Place have separate phone numbers and appointment lists. Confirm which clinician can assess you, where any lab or surgical stages occur and whether price information is current for that location. Ask for costs and payment timing in writing before committing; an estimate should reflect your case, not a website headline.

Understand what an initial figure includes

Private dental fees are meaningful only when the procedure is defined. A routine examination is not the same as a detailed cosmetic assessment with photographs, scans or several treatment options. A composite bonding fee quoted per tooth does not automatically include whitening, orthodontic preparation or repairs to other teeth. Similarly, an implant starting price may not cover every restorative component or a graft. Before comparing practices, ask for the actual scope of the quoted appointment and whether diagnostic imaging, laboratory work and follow-up would be additional.

The diagnosis is what determines the treatment cost

A small filling in a sound tooth can be very different from a large restoration where decay is close to the nerve. Crowns vary by material, clinical complexity and the condition of the tooth beneath. An implant in a well-preserved site differs from a case needing extraction, bone augmentation or multidisciplinary planning. Written estimates should separate essential treatment from elective appearance improvements and identify stages whose need cannot be decided until the mouth has been examined. A low starting price can be useful for budgeting, but it cannot substitute for a diagnosis.

Compare more than today's invoice

A crown may need eventual replacement; aligner treatment requires retention; bonding may be polished or repaired; implants need hygiene and review. A treatment that costs less initially may involve different long-term maintenance, while a more extensive option can sometimes remove healthy tooth structure unnecessarily. Ask what is likely to need attention later, what is included in a treatment guarantee if one exists, and how a change in plan affects the total cost. If finance is offered, the full payable amount and any credit conditions matter more than the headline monthly payment.

Use written plans to keep decisions clear

For several proposed treatments, ask for a tooth-by-tooth explanation and the consequences of postponing a non-urgent stage. The benefit of cosmetic work needs to be weighed against changes to healthy tissue and continuing care. Confirm current starting fees, the actual Hatfield location and which private or NHS options are relevant. A consultation should define the appropriate choices rather than imply every treatment or price is already settled.

Comparing a fee list with a personal estimate

A practice's published list is a guide, while the individual written plan should identify the teeth, materials and stages relevant to you. If two estimates differ significantly, compare whether both include the same diagnosis, aftercare and repair assumptions before inferring that one clinic is necessarily better or worse. An informed choice needs comparable scopes, not just comparable numbers.
