Bonding, veneers and whitening
Wedding Smile Planning: What Can Be Done in Time?
If an important event is approaching, the best cosmetic dental plan is the one that can be completed safely and predictably—not the most extensive treatment advertised.
Discover what could suit your smile
Whether you are thinking about colour, shape or a subtle change, a £30 consultation is a welcoming place to share your ideas, ask questions and explore a personalised approach.

Before a wedding or important event, cleaning, suitable whitening or limited bonding may be realistic options, depending on your teeth and the time available. Start with the event and travel dates, then allow for assessment, treatment and adjustments. More extensive work may need to wait if it cannot be completed and reviewed safely.
Sort options by reversibility and time
A dental examination, hygiene assessment and discussion of professional whitening may be reasonable early steps. Simple bonding can sometimes be planned within fewer visits than orthodontics or ceramic work, but only after health and bite assessment. Invisalign commonly requires a sustained treatment period, while veneers may need laboratory stages and checks. Implant treatment is not a last-minute cosmetic intervention: tissue healing and definitive restoration may extend well beyond the event.
Build in space for adjustments and sensitivity
Whitening can temporarily cause sensitivity and colour may take time to settle. Bonding needs polish, edge adjustment and checking against the bite. Crowns or veneers may require provisional restorations and laboratory work, with no guarantee that a redesign can be rushed. Avoid arranging a major intervention immediately before travel, photography or a period when follow-up appointments are impossible.
Decide what genuinely matters in the photographs
You may primarily notice one uneven edge, stained teeth or a small gap. Improving the highest-impact concern conservatively may be more sensible than preparing multiple sound teeth. Ask for a discussion of expected improvement under natural lighting, what cannot be changed and how existing restorations influence colour. Cosmetic dentistry should never promise a particular emotional or photographic outcome.
A North London planning checklist
Tell the Friern Barnet team the precise event date, travel arrangements and available appointment windows. Agree what is essential, optional or too risky to start. Get a written quote, confirm the number of visits and leave time for review. If a deadline is too short, deferring extensive treatment is a better result than accepting avoidable biological or financial risk.
Put the event date into the treatment plan first
Start early enough for a dental check and suitability assessment. Whitening can involve a home course and time for colour to settle. Bonding often needs less laboratory work than ceramic but still needs shaping and bite checks. Orthodontics may take months, followed by retainers. Planning backwards is useful only if the timetable leaves adequate room for the actual care, rather than committing to an irreversible procedure under pressure.
Choose the smallest change with the biggest personal value
Before suggesting a full makeover, look at the issue that actually draws your eye in photographs. A slightly uneven edge, colour discrepancy or one visible gap may be addressed conservatively. If the teeth are otherwise sound, extensive ceramic preparation can be disproportionate. Equally, a quick bonding solution may be unsatisfactory if severe crowding or an unstable bite makes it bulky. A good cosmetic consultation distinguishes appearance concerns from active dental disease and sets an achievable priority. It should not promise that a temporary aesthetic preview predicts how you will look in every photograph or light.
Understand colour sequencing and the buffer period
Whitening works on natural teeth, not on existing composite bonding or ceramic crowns. If a final resin shade is selected before whitening, the later contrast can be disappointing. Sensitive teeth may also need a more gradual whitening programme, and final restorative shades are usually judged after the colour has stabilised. Allow time for bonding polish, bite adjustment or a replacement if a temporary restoration is uncomfortable. Procedures just before travelling can be inconvenient if an unexpected review is needed. An agreed contingency is more valuable than a last-minute rushed appointment.
A short, realistic consultation brief
Tell the Friern Barnet or Hatfield team the event date, travel plans, teeth that concern you and the amount of change you want. The clinician can distinguish necessary health care, suitable modest appearance changes and procedures best deferred. Compare the full costs before consenting and agree what could be done if the schedule changes. The aim is a comfortable result you can maintain after the celebration.
