You might have a particular change in mind, or simply want to know what is possible. At a £30 consultation, we can talk through your goals and explain how the next steps are planned.

Braces and orthodontic treatment planning

Brackets create surfaces that need deliberate cleaning

With a fixed brace, you need to clean the teeth, the edges of each bracket and the spaces beneath the wire. NHS advice includes fluoride toothpaste and daily cleaning between teeth and around the appliance. A demonstration in your own mouth can show how to reach these areas far more clearly than a diagram alone. [1]

Do not overlook the gum line and spaces

The gum line and the spaces between teeth still need attention when a brace is fitted. General oral-hygiene guidance recommends cleaning every tooth surface and using suitable aids between teeth. If a brush is difficult to control or a space is hard to reach, the team can adapt the method to help you clean it effectively. [2]

Food choices and routine affect the result

NHS brace guidance advises reducing sugary foods and drinks and avoiding hard, crunchy or sticky foods that could damage the appliance. These habits help you look after both your teeth and the brace throughout treatment. If a part of the routine is difficult to manage, discuss it early so the advice can fit your daily life. [1]

Arrange review for ongoing symptoms or breakage

Contact the orthodontist if the brace breaks or your gums become very red, swollen or painful. Keep attending routine dental examinations as well as brace appointments: an orthodontic adjustment checks and progresses tooth movement, while a dental examination assesses the wider health of your mouth.
